Sacred Space

Lindsay pointed me toward an awesome website this week. It's called SacredSpace (www.sacredspace.ie) and is hosted by a group of Jesuit monks in Dublin, Ireland. The site's purpose is to lead people into daily contemplative prayer as they sit at their computers.

I visited SacredSpace yesterday and read the thought for the week. I got goosebumps as I realized the beautifully illustrated truth was just another facet of my life verse: "I will glory in my weakness, for then the power of Christ rests on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9.

See for yourself:

You remember that Jesus once took a little child, whom the apostles were shooing away, and told them: Unless you become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. The fact is, at the end, we do become like little children. We stop achieving, lose our driving license, and depend more and more on others to do things for us. Fr Pedro Arrupe, the last general of the Jesuits, at the end of his life was felled by a stroke, which crippled and silenced him. He could neither walk nor talk, though he could still write. He sent this message to the Jesuits who gathered to elect his successor: More than ever, I find myself in the hands of God. This is what I have wanted all my life, from my youth. And this is still the one thing I want. But now there is a difference: the initiative is entirely with God. It is indeed a profound spiritual experience to know and feel myself so totally in his hands.

The daily prayer was also quite meaningful. What an amazing experience--to connect with the heart of God in cyberspace, smack dab in the middle of my busy day. I came away renewed and refreshed.

And proud to be Irish!

OK, so I just visited the site and I see what you mean! It felt like God's peace was radiating out of my computer screen as I clicked through today's prayer. Awesome! It's now marked in my favorites and I'm headed back there now for more peaks!
